Second Life, is something of a parallel world to ours. Only virtual, and just about anything goes. You can work, live, marry, play anywhere you wish. And with enough money, possibly own a home or land. There are many places in Second Life to keep yourself busy. Many of which can be “favorited” or Landmarked. So you don’t have to worry too much about being lost and not finding your way back to places you liked. Another thing, is that parents have the ability to help keep their children away from the adults who play this one, they have TEEN Second Life to keep the “innocent” away from the adults who prefer their entertainment. The client for Second Life has the ability as well to prevent you from going into areas that are not PG. And this world DOES have it’s ADULT life as well. Different areas are ranked, or rated for what type of content is allowed to be spoken or role played. And if you do something that offends another in an area where its not allowed, you will be removed. In this world, if you have a drawing talent and the know how to 3-d render. You can make yourself look like anything you wish at all. Dragon, robot, elf, the “michellin man”, the “dough boy”, or the jolly “green giant”. Second Life will allow you to import any properly made textures, scripts, or skins, to be used on your creation. But all bodies and objects must be created in world first and then the textures and such can be aplied to it. Just keep in mind, that it DOES have to be content appropriate for the areas you’ll be going to! You can’t take a Dominatrix Robot into the Midget playland, and expect to be allowed to stay long. A PG area will not allow Mature content period. You’ll be plucked out pretty fast. But for the most part, the world of Second Life is fair from what all I have run into so far. Money can be earned for those jobs you do in this world, and this money can buy you things like outfits, jewelry, or decorative weapons that can be worn but used only in designated areas. Some people who know how can make a new body, as some of those who can do so very well charge for that service. The program can also tell you if anyone you add to your FRIENDS list comes into Second Life while you are there, and you can both then communicate back and forth. So you can meet up with friends and such in here too. To a degree, people are still finding ways to do different things, and the possibilities keep growing. They just added voice chat to it, they have music streaming, and videos as well. |
